Automatic CO₂ Suppression System

An 'Automatic CO₂ Suppression System' is a fixed fire protection system designed to detect and extinguish fires by automatically releasing carbon dioxide (CO₂) into the protected area. It is commonly installed in locations containing sensitive electrical and mechanical equipment, such as server rooms, electrical control panels, generator rooms, engine rooms, and data centres, where water-based extinguishing systems could cause damage. The system consists of CO₂ storage cylinders, detection sensors, control panels, discharge piping, and nozzles. When a fire is detected, the system activates an alarm to warn occupants, provides a short time delay for evacuation, and then releases CO₂ gas to reduce the oxygen concentration to a level that suppresses combustion and extinguishes the fire without leaving any residue. Because CO₂ can displace oxygen and pose a risk to human life, these systems are equipped with safety features such as audible and visual alarms, emergency stop switches, manual release controls, and proper ventilation procedures to ensure safe operation.
